Note: if you haven’t already, download the Substack app and/or check out the Chat. It’s pretty bare right now but I’m looking to build a space where subscribers can ask me or other subscribers about anything hoops-related, respond to post, and use it as a resource to help coaches get better!
In this week’s post, we’re going to take a look at running sets from a 1-4 High Set.
Before I share the sets, here are a few thoughts/ideas about the 1-4 High Offense:
I’ve seen some teams on the high school level run their ENTIRE man-to-man offense from this alignment. Some will run various sets out of the offense and some would run the offense based on a trigger (if the point guard throws to the elbow…we run a particular set automatically; if the point guard passes to the wing, we run another set automatically, etc.)
Some of the more common actions you’ll see with the 1-4 High include “Iverson Cuts”, backdoor options, and ballscreens
The players all being positioned around the free throw line extended opens up opportunities to get cuts at the rim (thus, the backdoor actions)
Plays from this set can be GREAT for “after timeout situations” or at the end of the clock - especially if you don’t run them too often during the flow of the game
Let’s take a look at 10 sets you could implement with your team!
