7 WNBA Plays I've Liked Lately

A little love for the W

As mentioned before, I’ve been watching more WNBA hoops lately.

Here are a few sets/concepts I’ve particularly enjoyed.

1. ACES 5 OUT - the flare action makes life tougher for x5 to get in good defensive position to guard this ball screen/hand off situation - especially if 1 is a legitimate shooter

   

2. SPARKS IVERSON - the Sparks ran this for Plum (a lefty) so you might want to flip it to the other side of the floor, but this is tough to guard because of the initial cut over the top and then flow into the ballscreen. The offside stagger takes away some help and also provides a hammer screen situation on a baseline drive.

   

3. SKY FLARE - another flare into ball screen action - tough to guard with an empty side if 1 is a shooter

   

4. MYSTICS PUSH BALL SCREEN - a wrinkle to this would be to have 2 sit down in the post for a quick post up if they have an advantage. If 5 can shoot it, you can ghost/slip/pop this empty side action.

   

5. MERCURY STAGGER REJECT - if you’ve run a stagger a few times in a game, this reject is a great option once they start cheating. I also like the rescreen on 4 if they’re a shooter (good slip change there as well).

   

6. LYNX DOUBLE - classic double ball screen out of transition

   

DREAM NASCAR SPAIN - the UCLA screen will be there from time to time, but I love 1 staying as a screener to make it into Spain action
