How to Create Instant Offense from Sideline Out of Bounds Plays
Why not attack any chance you have?
Before we dive in, check us out on Facebook and Threads! There’s not much there yet, but I’ll be posting there just like I do everywhere else.
A lot of teams don’t view Sideline Out of Bounds (SLOB) plays as an opportunity to score.
They just want to get the ball in safely and/or run whatever set play they have in mind.
And that’s okay.
But, there are some ways to try and get instant offense from these situations.
Here are a few plays/ideas you might be able to add to your offensive scheme:
Note: some of these are labeled as end-of-game plays, but you could also use them in your typical SLOB attack within your offense.
Run a SLOB that “mirrors” your conceptual offense and flow into it
Try and get something at the rim
Get a ball handler/playmaker heading downhill as early as possible
Run a quick hitter for a shooter
Have a quick-hitting SLOB for end-of-game situations
These are just 5 ways you can attack off the inbounds - your options are endless.
Your philosophy on how you approach Sideline Out of Bounds will depend on your team, personnel, and the defense…but, there will almost definitely come times during the season when you’ll need to score on a SLOB or you need an action or set that can get a good shot for your best players.
Be creative with it, play with different formats and actions, and use what works for your team and coaching style!
