In today’s post, I’m going to share a few of his shooting challenges/competitions/drills for block shooting.
A few things to keep in mind:
always be competing in these - whether it’s against the clock, another shooter, or your previous scores
don’t just shoot to shoot; make corrections along the way
these drills aren’t gospel; alter them according to what works best for you, your team, and the level you coach!

Providence 3s
2 balls/rebounders
5 spots - start in corner
round 1 = make 3 in a row from each spot
round 2 = make 2 in a row from each spot
round 3 = make 1 from each spot
3-2-1 Shooting
1 ball/rebounder
5 spots - start in corner
Make a 3, mid-range, layup from each of the 5 spots (15 total makes)
45 Deep
1 ball/rebounder
9 spots
Shoot a 3 and take 1 step back
Shoot a 3 and take 1 step back
Shoot a 3 and take 1 step back
Must make 3 out of 5 to move to next spot
Oregon 3s
2 balls/rebounders
7 spots
5 minutes on the clock
Must make 2 in a row to move to next spot
Your score is the number on spots you complete
Hamilton 3s
1 ball/rebounder
1 minute on the clock
2 chairs at each slot
Player tight curls back and forth behind 3 point line for 1 minute
Valpo 3s
2 balls/rebounders
5 spots
2 minutes on the clock
Make 2 in a row at all 5
shoot from the top of the key with the time left; total makes from the top is your score
Monmouth 100
100 3s untimed
25 off the bounce, 10 off ball-screen, 10 choice of move, 5 walk-in 3s, 25 catch and shoot, 5 from each of the 5 spots
55 in 5
1 ball/rebounder
5 minutes on the clock
Shoot a 3, shuffle, shoot a 3 shuffle, shoot a mid range - repeat
all makes are 1 point (goal is 55)
Perfect Swish Mid
shuffle from elbow to elbow until you get 2 swishes
then shuffle elbow to wing on both sides until you get 2 swishes
then shuffle wing to corner until you get 2 swishes
